The Theories Of Acupuncture

An acupuncturist is done by inserting very thin needles into particular points on your body.  It first started to gain attention in the US in 1971, because it is effective in reducing postoperative pain.

Below are discussed different theories about how acupuncture works.

East Acupuncture Theory

Chinese theories about how acupuncture heals the human body are different from those discussed in the West. According to the belief of traditional Chinese medicine, there are two opposing forces in nature, yin, and yang. It also occurs in the human body. Yin is very passive, while Yang is very active.

Chinese medicine also believes that there is a continuous flow of energy, known as Qi. The flow of this energy has meridians as pathways in the human body. Each meridian corresponds to organs or areas of the body. During the flow of energy or qi, if there is a balance between yin and yang then the body remains healthy. If Qi is blocked or disrupted in some way, this causes the yin and yang to go out of balance. This, in turn, causes the disease.

West Acupuncture Theory

In the West, scientists explain how acupuncture heals the body in a different way. One theory suggests that opioids are released into the central nervous system, which focuses on the spinal cord and brain during acupuncture treatment. This will reduce the pain. Acupuncture has also been found to activate nerves in the spinal column that neurotransmitter release, which suppresses pain.
